Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, the long awaited sportier version of this popular sports utility vehicle (SUV), is expected to mark its entry in the Indian auto market in March 2012. Earlier, the model was expected to be launched at the Delhi International Auto Expo, but as the Hindustan Motors – Mitsubishi Motors skipped the Delhi International Auto Expo, the launch is now speculated to be scheduled in March.
The new Pajero Sport will be imported to the Indian market through completely knocked-down (CKD) unit route from the company’s Thailand plant, and will be assembled at the firm’s Chennai assembly unit. The addition of the Pajero Sport variant would be strengthening the line-up of Pajero, enabling it to compete more promptly with the rivals like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva and Renault Koleos.
Besides a number of cosmetic changes, the car will come powered by a refined 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine which is capable of generating a peak power of 135 Bhp along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. The seven - seater Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be carrying a five speed manual transmission as standard, unlike its global line-up where the SUV is available in both manual and automatic versions. It is expected that the company might offer the car in an optional 4X4 version.
