Mitsubishi Outlander diesel might launch in India by early 2015

Mitsubishi India that recently launched the Pajero Sport facelift with Automatic transmission gearbox, is now planning to expand its product and dealership network in the country. At the time of Pajero Sport AT, the company announced to add two more SUVs in 2015. If media reports are to be believed, Mitsubishi is aiming to launch the thirdgeneration of the Outlander in the country shortly.

Mitsubishi did sell the first and second generation versions of the Outlander SUV in the Indian car market; however, it failed to generate any buzz among buyers. That was also because of the unavailability of the diesel model previously, which will not be the case when the company relaunches it again.

The UK model is powered by a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that is capable of producing a top power output of 148bhp and a peak torque of 380Nm. The engine is offered with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission gearbox options. The Outlander diesel is likely to be priced around Rs. 20 lakh, and will be positioned under the Pajero Sport.

Unlike the previous generation SUV, the all-new Outlander is likely to be larger than the previous model. The crossover is expected to offer a seat for seven adults in 2+3+3 seating layout. With the addition of diesel powertrain and an extra seat for two more passengers, the Outlander diesel could be an excellent product for the Indian market. The vehicle is likely to come as CKD (completely knocked-down unit) and then assembled at Hindustan Motors’ Tiruvallur manufacturing unit.
