      Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG set to be launched in December 2013

      Mercedes-Benz seems to be on the prowl in the Indian car market as it is looking to introduce yet another model in the country after the C-Class Edition C. The iconic German car manufacturer recently announced that it will launch the SLK-55 AMG in India on 2nd December 2013, sources have claimed. In the AMG version, the company has not changed the engine configuration of the regular SLK 55 model. The due found difference between the regular model and SLK-55 AMG can be seen in the exterior and interior appearance of both the vehicles.

      Reportedly, the car would be powered by the 5.5-litre V8 engine that generates a maximum power of 421 bhp. Deriving power from these output figures, the car possess an ability to power itself from naught to 100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds while reaching a top speed of 250 kmph, which is electronically limited. In terms of transmission, the company would give away the AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. There will three different models that will be available on the car namely, Controlled Efficiency, Sports and Manual.

      In order to make SLK 55 AMG appear distinct from regular SLK, the company has given fitted away AMG parts in the car having front and rear aprons, side skirting, ventilated and perforated disc brakes. Also to mention, the addition of AMG sports suspension, Nappa leather upholstery and 18-inch AMG alloy wheels are given in Mercedes-Benz SLK 55. Other features like aluminium interior trim, Eco Start/Stop system, AMG sport exhaust, torque vectoring brake and ESP might be offered in the production model meant for India.

      At present, the German luxury car maker offers 5 AMG models, E-63, C-63, G-63 and SLS AMG coupe apart from the roadster model of the same. Once SLK 55 AMG rolls out in India, then car would join the bandwagon of other AMG models in India. As seen in European markets, the SLK 55 AMG model is almost 30 per cent more fuel efficient than the outgoing version. In order to extract maximum mileage from the car, two cylinders are shut off if the engine load is less. It also gives away less carbon dioxide emissions at 195 g/km.

      Meanwhile, the flagship sedan of the company, S-Class is due for launch in 2014 and is expected to roll out in diesel and petrol versions. As reported, the next-generation S-Class would be assembled locally at the Pune facility of Mercedes-Benz.
