Iconic German car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz has been grabbing a lot of headlines lately owing to the unveiling of its new products. The company has been garnering a significant attention from automobile enthusiasts as it showcased S65 AMG model at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show. The model that was revealed earlier by Mercedes-Benz has been touted as the sporting side of its S-Class. It is likely that the deliveries of the car will start from April 2014 and the first market to receive the car would be that of United Kingdom.
As reported, the S65 would derive power from its massive V12 engine, which has been claimed to be the most fuel efficient powertrain in the world. The twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre engine would render a power output of 621 bhp alongside 1000 Nm of torque. With these output figures, the car is believed to power from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds but the top speed has been electronically limited to 250 kmph. In terms of transmission, S65 AMG gets a Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox, which is offered with three different modes, namely, Sport, Manual and Controlled Efficiency.
One of the highlights in S65 AMG version is the Magic Body Control suspension system, which automatically senses the road condition while the vehicle is in motion, in order to adjust the suspension system accordingly. As told by the German auto maker, this feature would be standard across the entire range of S65 variants. Some of the other equipment that come standard on the car includes an ESP Dynamic Cornering Assist system, which helps in negating the impact of understeer while cornering the car. In order to reduce its weight, Mercedes-Benz has given carbon fibre bonnet, lithium-ion battery, carbon ceramic brakes (optional) and lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels.
It is for the first time that Mercedes-Benz has given a coloured 21 x 7 cm heads-up display, which has been placed about 2 metres ahead of the driver seat. The new display holds information regarding the different aspects of the car like navigation data, speed limits, traffic signs, Distronic Plus info and gear shift indicator. Besides, the new touch pad for COMAND system is among the features that have been introduced first. The 6.5 x 4.5 cm touch pad for COMAND can easily sense two finger gestures at time for swiping and zooming. Other than these, some of the standard features like Attention Assist, electrically adjustable rear seats, LED Intelligent light system and panoramic sliding roof are also given in S65 AMG.
As far as the design of S65 AMG goes, it gets a newly structured front grille and larger front air intakes, apart from the new side ones. The company has also given a front splitter in the newly designed front bumper, besides the twin exhaust tailpipes. At interiors, premium AMG equipment is offered that include sportier seats and bespoke steering wheel.
