German luxury carmaker Mercedes is planning to launch the G63 AMG early next year. This will be the first offering from Mercedes in the coming year, which will supposedly be followed by the revamped E-Class and S-Class as well as the all new A-Series. With BMW and Audi leading the luxury car market in India, Mercedes has made it a point to regain their No. 1 standing.

The new Mercedes G63 AMG will be a replacement of the G55 AMG. This new entrant will be powered by a 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine, churning out a maximum power of 544 bhp, with the torque being 760 Nm. Moreover, the car is equipped with AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. A 5461 cc engine ensures that performance is the biggest USP of this new offering.

On the outside the G63 can be distinguished from the G55 on several counts. A new aggressive front bumper, new grille, DRLs along with side-mounted exhaust system and new mag wheels will be seen in the new G63 AMG. Few differences inside the car include an SLS AMG-style steering wheel, shifter and gauge cluster. The infotainment system in the car will utilise the new COMAND software to make it more responsive and user-friendly. The seats have also received an upholstery change and are more comfortable.

Mercedes has no plans to launch the other car in the G-series, the G65 AMG, in India anytime soon. However, there is probability that refreshed versions of E-Class and S-Class will be introduced in India soon after G63. At the same time, BMW is planning to bring in the luxury hatchback 1-series, the most inexpensive BMW till date. Mercedes, meanwhile, is also considering its chances of bringing the hatchback A-class in India. All in all, Mercedes is leaving no stones unturned to regain their top spot in the luxury car section in India, and the launch of G63 AMG might just be the beginning.
