      Marutis National Road Safety Mission trains 98,000 people in 2 years

      Maruti Suzuki, the largest car maker in the Indian market, said on Wednesday that it has trained 98,000 under-privileged people of weaker sections of the society in the period of last two years. The company had launched its National Road Safety Mission, in December 2008. So far, the company has trained a total of 3.58 lakh people under this mission.

      The company said in a statement on Wednesday, "Of these, over 98,000 people are from the underprivileged section of society, who are keen to take driving as a profession.”

      The company aims to train as many as 5 lakh drivers over a period of three years under this mission. Out of these drivers about 1 lakh would be from weaker sections of the society.

      At present, there are about 166 Maruti Driving Schools in the country along with 4 Institutes of Driving Training & Research (IDTR). So far, the training initiative of Maruti Suzuki has benefited over 7 lakh people in the country. In order to promote the safe driving among the people of the country, the company has announced an exciting driving competition in the age group of 10 to 30 years.

      As per MSI Chief General Manager (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava, "Though we are trying to educate different sections of the society through programmes and infrastructure like IDTRs and Maruti Driving Schools, we believe that the young population of the country holds the key to road safety promotion.”
