The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch as many as 20 new car models in the Indian auto market over the period of coming five years, as per the recent media reports in the domestic market. According to industry sources, the company will continue to focus on its stronghold small car segment and most of its offerings will be in this segment only. These upcoming models include facelifts, new variants of the existing cars, and completely new variants.

Initially, the company will be launching an all new trimmed version of its popular entry level sedan Maruti Swift Dzire. The new Dzire will be less than 4 meters in size, making it qualify for the lesser excise duty segment. With reduced overall cost, the company is expected to price the car about Rs 50,000 lesser as compared to the existing version of the car. The new Dzire will be launched at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012 in January.

The new Dzire will be followed by an all new multi utility vehicle (MUV) – Maruti R3, new face-lifted A-Star, back-lifted Ritz and an all new 800 cc small car in the Alto series by year 2013. The company is rapidly expanding its Research & Development capabilities in the Indian auto market. It has planned-up an investment of Rs 1,000 crore for the expansion of its R&D facility at Rohtak.
