In a bid to build their market share, the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is now planning to enhance their focus on higher segment cars like Ertiga and SX4.

Excited with the success of recently launched Multi Utility Vehicle Ertiga in the country, the company is looking forward to grab a major chunk of the market share in the segment of starting range MUVs and mid size sedan segment. This will not only help the company in regaining their market share but will also help them in getting rid of the image of just small car maker.

The company has planned-up to launch a number of new models in these segments including SX4 facelift that is scheduled to be launched in the country by next year, a new version of premium Sports Utility Vehicle Grand Vitara and a new SUV based on the platform of XA Alpha concept. All of these models are expected to be roll-out in the country over the period of next three years.

At present, utility vehicle segment accounts for about 15 to 17 percent of the total India passenger vehicle sales. However, the country’s largest car maker is yet to have a significant presence in this segment.
