Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger car manufacturer, has made an announcement regarding the recalling of over 3700 units of newly-launched sedan Ciaz in order to rectify a suspect faulty clutch in the manual variant. Though, according to the manufacturer, the problem is not any threat to the security of the car, it can be an issue in gear engaging.

In fact, the firm went ahead to not call it an instance of recall, rather claiming it to be "a service campaign to minimise any future inconvenience to customers." Nevertheless, units in excess of 3700 going back to the workshop is nothing less than a recall and this is the third time in 2014 that it has happened with Maruti Suzuki, which could be a matter of concern. Recalling of cars has become a regularly featuring phenomenon in the Indian automobile market and in the last three years, the number is just 30000 short of one lakh units.

Issuing a statement, the firm said, "Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will proactively undertake a service campaign to inspect a suspected fault and replace the relevant part of clutch operation system of a batch of 3,796 Ciaz (manual transmission) cars. The cars are among those manufactured till November 7,2014. The initiative for the Ciaz is not a recall."

The firm also added that dealers have begun communication with owners of cars that are scheduled to be recalled along with the fact that this activity will be done free of any charge. Ciaz, from a strategic point of view, is an important car for Maruti Suzuki and its attempt to dominate a segment that is currently ruled by Hyundai Verna and Honda City.
