Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has officially confirmed the firm’s plans of conceptualising and making new V-twin drivetrains. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Stefan Pierer, was present at the EICMA automobile show in Milan and spoke about the introduction of new middleweight motorcycles, which will feature engines with a capacity ranging from 600 cc to 800 cc.

The new range of models, called Husqvarna, will also feature these engines and that is likely to help the firm in optimising the cost. Husqvarna showcased two new concept motorcycles at the EICMA show in Milan, namely 401 Svartpilen and 401 Vitpilen. Notably, these concept bikes have been designed on the basis of KTM Duke 390 model and are modern day versions of racer and scrambler bikes, respectively.

Pierer, who was present at the show, said, “We will have a new KTM mid-class of bikes within around three years. We are looking at the way this will happen, but we are working on 600 to 800cc V-twins.” Though the CEO of KTM did not add any further details, it is believed that the engine is not likely to be of higher capacity than 800 cc.

KTM’s intentions of making new V-twin powertrains first surfaced earlier in 2014 during the launch of RC200 and RC390 in India. While Pierer confirmed that Duke 690 will not make its way to the Indian market but the middleweight replacement of the naked bike will surely be launched in the subcontinent.
