Maruti recently introduced its latest and upgraded variant of its best selling model Maruti Alto under the moniker K10, the car being powered by the new K series engine. The new model has become the fastest selling model in the country by clocking 20,000 units sales in just 40 days of its launch. “We have already sold more than 20,000 units of Alto K10. No other model in the country has received such a response within 40-odd days since launch,” said Shashank Srivastava, Chief general manager, Maruti Suzuki India.
Before Alto K10, Maruti Ritz had set the record of becoming the fastest selling model in the country by registering sale of 15,000 units in 60 days of its launch. Currently the earlier version of Maruti Alto sells around 22,000 units a month. In August alone, combined sales of both models of Maruti Alto stood at 28,000 units. The new K10 engine can provide a mileage 20.2 km per litre and can go from 0-100 m KM per hour in 13.3 seconds. According to the industry experts, the sales could easily cross 40,000 units if Maruti is able to do away with its capacity constraints and reduce the waiting time on the model.
“The K10 is an aspirational car at the entry-level. In larger cities, entry level cars do not find many takers. But K10 with its combination of features and the price at which they are offered has struck a chord with customers across cities,” said Shashank Srivastava.
