If the recent media reports are to be believed, just one month is left for the launch of Mahindra’s much awaited global Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) – Mahindra W201. The unconfirmed news reports claim that the company is all set to launch its W201 SUV in the Indian market on 26th September, 2011. The Indian auto giant has already told its dealers to be fully prepared for the launch of the new SUV in the country.
The W201 is a monocoque vehicle that will be powered by a transversely placed engine with front wheel driving. The SUV has got an eye arresting exterior that is blessed with curved Mahindra grille, a rising beltline and fascinating swept back headlamps.
Carrying a transversely placed 2.2-litre mHawk power train at heart, the SUV will be developing a maximum power of 140 bhp along with a maximum torque of 32.6kgm. A more powerful twin turbo version of this SUV is also expected to be launched with peak power reaching up to 170 bhp.
Being a world class SUV, the new Mahindra W201 will be blessed with a range of new age off-road performance enhancing features including the likes of traction control, hill descent control and ESP.
The new SUV will be place above the Scorpio model in Mahindra’s portfolio in the price range of Rs 11 to 14 lakh. However, the company is yet to reveal the features, specification and pricing details of the vehicle.
