Mahindra & Mahindra, the largest utility vehicle maker in the Indian market is launching its much awaited sports utility vehicle – Mahindra Thar 4X4 in the country today. Initially, the Thar 4X4 will be launched in the state of Rajasthan and Kerala. The new Mahindra SUV is expected to be shelved in the price segment of Rs 6 to Rs 8 lakh where it will be a one of its kind vehicle.
Mahindra Thar 4X4 is already available in the European and South-African markets where it is receiving an impressive response from the buyer of this segment. Sporting a 2500CC turbo-diesel engine, the muscular Thar model is capable of delivering a peak power of 107 Kw at 3800 rpm in combination with a peak torque of 247 Nm at 1800 rpm. The Thar 4X4 is basically an off-road bound vehicle that comes featured with highly sophisticated manual shift Borg-Warner 4x4 transfer case (with 2.48:1 low ratio).
In order to make sure an ultimate driving pleasure on off-road journeys, the Thar 4X4 has been blessed with a slew of performance boosting features such as a leaf-spring suspension at the rear with double-action shock absorbers, light weight and high traction 6Jx16 wheels, approach and departure angles of 46 degrees and 30 degrees respectively, NGT 530 R transmission with 2-speed gear-reduction (1:1 and 2.68:1), and many more.
