Audi India, one of the country’s largest luxury car makers, is all set to launch its much anticipated super luxury Audi A8 in the Indian market on 10th January, 2011. The Mumbai ex-showroom prices of diesel and petrol versions of new Audi A8 are 76.5 lakh and 91 lakh, respectively.
Initially, the new car will come powered by a 4.2L FSI V8 petrol engine that will be capable of outpouring a peak power of 367 bhp in combination with a maximum torque of 445 Nm. It is expected that the petrol version of the car will be followed by a diesel version that will be sporting a 3.0L TDI V6 diesel engine with the capability of delivering a maximum power of 247 bhp with 550 Nm of peak torque.
Moreover, for the people who prefer high engine power over comfort and luxury, the company will roll-out an excessively powerful 6.3L W12 engine variant (by the second quarter of next year) that will be generating a massive peak power of 493 bhp and peak torque of 625 Nm. All of these variants will come blessed with long wheel base specifications.
Audi India is currently the third largest luxury car maker in the Indian market following the Mercedes Benz and BMW at top two positions, respectively. It is one of the fastest growing luxury car makers in the Indian market. In the period if Jan-Nov 2010, the company has sold as many as 2,803 units of its cars in India as compared to 1,645 cars sold in the same month last year, accounting for a sales jump of over 70 percent.
The company sells a slew of luxury cars in the Indian market that comprises of sedans like Audi A4 and A6, SUV’s like Audi Q5 and Q7, and coupe Audi TT.
