      Mahindra Scorpio facelift - Know it better

      Mahindra & Mahindra gradually unleashed tweaked version of its long awaited popular SUV Scorpio in India on September 25th. There are no two ways about the anticipation created around Scorpio’s extensively modified version. However, with the facelift version revealed and up for sale, there is yet abound curiosity surrounding the changes made to the vehicle amid SUV lovers. Hence we bring you an insight into the tweaked Scorpio and give you detailed information on what has changed.

      Underpinning a new platform, Scorpio facelift brags boastful dimensions: length measures around 4,456 mm, width stands at 1820mm, height is around 1995 mm for the 2.2 litre mHawk engine while the width of 2.5 litre variant measures a tad low at 1930mm. Wheelbase of new Scorpio is 2680mm allowing ample space inside the cabin. Fuel tank capacity is 60 litres which is good enough.

      Coming to the mechanical set up of the vehicle, the SUV is available in two engine options, a 2.5 litre, four cylinder, m2DiCr, turbocharged common rail diesel engine. The engine is good for a towering power output of 75 bhp at 3200 RPM along with peak torque of 200 Nm between 1400 to 2200 RPM. The entry level trims are equipped with this engine. The other engine option is the 2.2 litre, four cylinder mHawk engine bestowed with variable geometry turbocharger common rail direct injection diesel powertrain. This engine is capable of engendering maximum power output of 120 Bhp at 4000 RPM and pinnacle torque of 280 Nm between 1800 to 2800 RPM. High end variants are employed with the mHawk engine. Both the engine options are matched to a five-speed manual gearbox. The company has made it clear that an automatic variant is not coming anytime soon.

      As for the suspension, the SUV gets a double wishbone type independent front coil spring in the front, rear is fitted with a multi-link coil spring with anti-roll bar. Ventilated discs brakes have been equipped in the front while drum brakes have been fitted at rear.

      The new Scorpio is feature rich as compared to its predecessor, on the outside the vehicle gets a set of new equipment such as projector lights with integrated LED running lights.

      Rear too gets LED tail lamps, side look is enhanced by the presence of 17-inch alloy wheels. Range topping variant gets exquisite features such as a newly designed 6 inch touch screen infotainment system with Bluetooth, DVD, USB and AUX-in. Other features like GPS, rain and light sensors, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable wing mirrors and steering mounted audio controls along with cruise control are offered on the new Scorpio S10.

      Mahindra has incorporated prominent safety features in the new Scorpio, dual airbags for front passenger and driver have been equipped, along with this the SUV also gets ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system and rear parking sensors.

      For the last three years, M&M has sold almost 50,000 units of Scorpio annually, hopefully the new version of the SUV will continue or even surpass these sales numbers.
