City's congested roads have been a well known issue in the city, especially the medical emergency services are the most affected ones. Acknowledging the problem, the Maharashtra government has been planning to introduce motorbike ambulance service as four-wheel ambulances indeed find it difficult to navigate through city's congested roads.

The facility would help the fraternity to help the affected within the golden hour as the bikes offer better maneuverability options even in heavy traffic situation. Either the doctors themselves or paramedics can ride the motorbike ambulances. Speaking more on the occasion to TOI, State Health minister Dr Deepak Sawant, said, “The talks are in the primary stage. It will take two to three months to work out the details.”

The minister further added, “London has three types of ambulance services: bicycle, motorbike and four-wheeler. The rider will be as good as a physician. The prime issue is to train the rider as his role is pivotal to the project.” The bikes would also be allowed to be ridden on footpaths as well. Mumbai and Pune has been well known for traffic vows and four-wheeled ambulances are often known to reach late due to traffic snarls. Commenting on the situation, a senior official stated, “We don't have problems of reaching patients or victims on time in rural areas, but cities are a different ball game altogether.”
