      M&M may roll-out new electric cars from SsangYong portfolio

      The Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to team-up with its recently acquired Korean firm SsangYong Motor to enhance its electric car business, Recently, M&M has indicated that it is eyeing to develop an electric variant of Ssangyong’s popular crossover vehicle Korando, which could well be the first stem of the company towards rolling-out jointly developed electric vehicles. The move would be taken in the view of continuously rising prices of conventional fuels and growing demand for eco-friendly cars.

      The electric variant of Korando model was showcased at the recently-concluded Geneva Motors Show. It is to be mentioned here that Mahindra & Mahindra will launch Ssangyong’s Korando C and the Rexton models in the Indian market in the first quarter next year.

      Moreover, Mahindra-Reva is also gearing-up to roll-out 4-seater NXR in the Indian market very soon. According to a recent statement given by Pawan Goenka, president (automotive & farm equipment sector) M&M, Mahindra Reva is gearing up to launch the NXR soon and widen its electric vehicle portfolio in the country. M&M is setting-up a new manufacturing facility in Bangalore which will enhance the overall capacity of the facility to 30,000 units by 2013-14 from the existing capacity15,000 units.
