Tata-owned Land Rover is gearing up for the launch of the new Discovery Sport in the Indian car market. If media reports are to be believed, the luxury SUV will be locally assembled via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) units at the company’s production facility in Pune. The vehicle is likely to be launched by mid-2015 and will come as a replacement for the Freelander.

The Indian-spec model will be powered by a 2.2-litre four cylinder diesel engine that offers two states of tunes- 187bhp and 147bhp. The engine will be coupled to a newly developed 9-speed automatic transmission gearbox. Since the vehicle is likely to be offered in top-spec HSE trim, it will be fully loaded. It will be equipped with the new Land Rover’s InControl touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable leather seats, dual zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, etc.

Sharing its design traits with the Range Rover Evoque, the Discovery sport features a twin-slat grille flanked by stylish xenon headlamps. The front gets chunky bumper, LED fog lamps and silver skid guard. Inside the cabin, the quality and fit & finish is top notch, while the centre console is placed in vertical direction. The new Discovery Sport offers comfortable seats for seven adults in 2+3+2 layout. It features a new multi-link rear axle, which allows the car to offer ample cabin space to accommodate the third row.
