An all new generation of the Kia Rio made its global debut last year at the Paris Motor Show. Now, Kia has officially announced the prices and specifications of this mid-size hatchback that will soon hit the roads in the UK.
The Rio model range is priced between £11,995 (Rs 10.20 lakh) and £17,445 (Rs 14.84 lakh) depending on the variant. Following customer demand, Kia has decided to sell it as a five-door model only.
Overall, there are 10 versions in three trim grades. In the top-spec variants, the Rio gets 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control, black faux leather upholstery, a 7-inch display, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, satellite navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and Bluetooth, electric folding mirrors with LED indicators, cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning systems. As for the entry-level variant, there’s front electric windows, remote locking, electrically adjustable mirrors, a 3.8-inch display, Bluetooth, bi-function projection headlamps and cornering lights and LED daytime running lights.
Mechanically, the Rio gets Kia's 1-litre turbocharged petrol engines options. They join revised versions of 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines and two versions of the Euros-spec 1.4-litre turbo diesel. The 1-litre engine is available with either 99 or 118bhp, in both cases with 171Nm of torque.
Kia will eventually enter the Indian market and is expected to announce its arrival plans soon. The Rio, in all likelihood, will be sold alongside the Rio sedan and the Picanto.
