According to a report, Kawasaki India will launch the much-awaited naked sportbike – the Z250SL – by the end of this year. To be positioned below the Z250, the single-cylinder Kawasaki Z250SL will be assembled using some locally-sourced components at Bajaj’s Chakan plant. Though, the engine and its components will be imported from Thailand.

Powering the Kawasaki Z250SL is a 249cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that will deliver an estimated power of 27bhp and 22.6Nm of torque. This power-unit will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. The bike sits on high tensile steel trellis frame that makes it 20kgs lighter than the Z250. While the non-ABS model weighs 148kgs, the ABS-equipped variant has a kerb weight of 150kgs.

The components that are reported to be sourced locally include handle bar, headlight, taillights, switches, switch housings, tyres and wheels, radiator fan, clutch plate, suspension system, etc. This will help the company to price the bike more aggressively against its rivals. It will be equipped with 37mm telescopic fork up front and uni-trak with adjustable spring pre-load rear suspension system. Braking power comes from 290mm front and 220mm disc rear brakes.

The Z250SL is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 lakh that will make it the most affordable Kawasaki performance bike in India. Upon its launch, the Kawasaki Z250SL will take on the likes of Honda CBR250R, KTM Duke 200 and the upcoming Mahindra Mojo 300.
