A new driving and research centre shall soon be a reality in Jamshedpur. For this purpose, a fresh MOU has been reportedly been signed by Tata Motors and the Jharkhand government. The state is giving 12 acre land near Kasidih in the steel city to the private sector to set up the centre an initiative under the 12th five-year plan, an official release said here.
The Union Road, Transport & Highways Ministry would provide Rs 17 crore for construction of its infrastructure, it added. The MoU has set a target to train 3000 hands in light motor, light and heavy vehicles every year and impart a refresher course to 15,000 drivers per year and that the Centre is expected to be completed within 18 months, the release said.
The MoU was signed by Jharkhand transport department secretary Ratan Kumar and the vice president and Global Head (Customer Care) of Tata Motors, Sanjiv Garg. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said his government’s endeavour was to fast track development of the state and skill training to the youth could be the driving force in its acceleration. Calling for a special place in skill training for women, Das said apart from training in driving, training should also be imparted for vehicular maintenance, the release said.
