British car marquee, Jaguar has proclaimed its plan to develop six new Lightweight E-Type cars conceived on the 1963 model. The first model from the new range is expected to debut by the end of this summer season. The Lightweight E-Type project commenced 41 years ago in 1963, aimed at developing 18 ‘Special GT E-Type Cars’, however, the company claims that the six new cars being developed are a part of those cars which could not be materialized at that point in time. Jaguar back then built just 12 cars and the remaining 6 registered chassis numbers have not been used by the company till date.

These six vehicles will be hand built and will share specifications with the models built in 1960s. One of the engines used for these six vehicles include a 3.8 litre straight-six engine. An all aluminium body helped curb weight of the vehicles rolled out 41 years ago. Besides an all aluminium body, an engine block and absence of chrome accents from exterior and interior trim helped achieve low weight for the 12 vehicles. As compared to the standard E-type vehicles, Lightweight cars weighed 114 kg lesser.

Jaguar is anticipating unprecedented demand for these new six Lightweight E-type vehicles. Especially famed race car enthusiasts and Jaguar fanatics could show interest in this new vehicle range.
