Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the British subsidiary of the Indian auto giant Tata Motors, has said that it is looking forward to start assembling operations of some more India portfolio models in the Indian auto market.

The company is targeting to grab a major chunk of the luxury car segment in the Indian market with achieving a market share of 20 percent in this segment. At present, JLR assembles its Freelander2 model in the Indian market at its parent’s Pimpri plant near Pune.

Speaking to the Reporters in the National Capital, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India Head of Premier Car Division Rohit Suri said, "If there is a business case, we will consider assembling more models, even including the Jaguar cars, in India." While further answering a query regarding the name of the model the company plans to assemble in India, he said, "No final decision has been taken and the evaluation process is ongoing."

The luxury car segment in the Indian market is growing at a considerably higher pace, it is expected to cross 20,000 unit marks by this year end. The industry analysts estimates the Indian luxury car segment to touch around 1,50,000 units by year 2020. At present, the luxury car segment in India is dominated by German giants like BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi.
