The newest trim from Hyundai well known as Elite i20 has been a hot-selling hatchback in the country. The company has been planning on launching the new Elite i20 in the Australian market, but based on ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Program) crash test standards the vehicle has scored only 3/5 owing to lack of more that two airbags even in its top end trim. The European manufactured trim has however scored an all 5/5 on the safety aspect.

Due to this situation, the Australian market is still continuing with the previous generation of i20 that is supplied from Chennai, India based Hyundai facility. The latest trim in India is powered by a 1396 cc 16V U2 CRDi diesel engine, which is capable of generating 88.76bhp at the rate of 4000 rpm. The net torque output of the car is 219.7 Nm at the rate of 1500-2750 rpm. Whereas, the petrol trim is powered by an 1197 cc 16V Kappa VTVT Series, which powers the model to 81.9 bhp at the rate of 6000 rpm. The torque output of the car is 114.7 Nm at the rate 4000 rpm.
