The IIT Kanpur study to check the sources for Delhi’s air pollution has found very high levels of PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), which are extremely toxic in nature.
Other than PAH, the report has been submitted to the Supreme Court and this clearly states that PM 2.5 is due to road dust (38 per cent), vehicles (20 per cent), domestic fuel burning (12 per cent) and even industrial sources (11 per cent). With this in consideration and the Supreme Court is likely to pass a new judgement on how the roads should be cleaned.
The report even stated that the government will be looking at cleaning major city roads four times in a month with vacuum and not just sweeping it off. This is one solution will reduce dust particles that are suspended in the air. The pollution experts even said that the presence of PAH is alarming as it already there in city air and this can be dangerous to living beings. The Supreme Court has taken its winter-off and will be back on the pollution hearing in the first week of January itself.
