Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the car maker that has to its credit, the coveted titles of being the country’s largest exporter and the second-largest car manufacturer, launched the all-new compact car EON today. The EON has been produced on an altogether different platform that is made exclusively for the rapidly growing Indian market.
Hyundai’s latest introduction can undoubtedly be considered as the most reliable product by the company, owing to its unprecedented style, comfort, utility & economy. On the eve of the launch of the much-awaited entry level car, H. W. Park, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited said, “Hyundai has always led the way when it comes to innovations and with the EON we wish to continue our legacy in India of producing world-class products. EON has been specifically built keeping in mind varied Indian conditions and special requirements of our esteemed Indian customers. The EON will further expand our market share in the fast-growing small car segment in the Indian market.”
Hyundai Eon has been assembled with a 0.8-litre iRDE engine, capable of delivering a peak power of 55 hp at 5500 rpm and 75 Nm at 4000 rpm of maximum torque.
The unmatched efficiency of the 814 cc petrol engine, along with a 5-speed manual transmission, enables the small car to offer a mileage of 21.1 kmpl, as certified by Automotive Research Association of India. Moreover, the mileage quotient makes EON the most fuel-efficient car in the small vehicle segment of the Indian auto market.
Hyundai’s design and development centre at Namyang in Korea, in collaboration with its Hyderabad-based research & development centre, has strived to offer a well-defined fluidic design to EON. As a result, the unique and enticing appearance would enable the car to live up to the expectations of the entry-level segment customers. The whole look of EON has been inspired by Hyundai’s new signature philosophy of ‘fluidic design’. Moreover, immense focus has been given to ensure adequate occupant space, unparalleled style and high-end interiors, which is an unusual aspect in the small car category.
The car's unique design displays a cheerful overall look with a not-so-high roofline that gives an innovative, futuristic and stylish image to the car.
Keeping efficient space management in mind, Hyundai has used various streamlined interior styling concepts. Its wide wheel base and voluminous boot space are the USPs that makes it a suitable option for Indian customers. Moreover, the company has provided the car with multiple storage spaces, like multiple bottle holders and cup holders. This car is also equipped with a spacious glove box and a well designed dashboard.
The manufacturer has fitted this car with features that would cater to the needs of buyers of low priced cars. Some of the standard features of the vehicle are front power windows, internally adjustable mirrors, tilt steering, keyless entry, remote fuel & tail gate opening and central locking. Apart from these, EON includes front door full armrest, front room lamp, rear seatbelt knuckle holder, rear speaker grill and rear parcel tray. Additionally, the car has centrally positioned AC vents with rotary type knobs that allow it to optimally cool the cabin.
Hyundai EON also scores in terms of entertainment with its world class infotainment system. The car features a 2-DIN integrated type audio system with Radio, CD, mp3, USB, Aux-in and iPod connectivity. The car also features unique accessories like 2-tone beige & brown interiors, metal finish inside door handles and body colour outside mirror and door handles. Along with these, buyers will also find micro roof antenna, tilt function on electric power steering and rear seatbelt knuckle holder in the small car.
The car maker has taken all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the vehicle as well as passengers. It has assimilated EON with high-end safety features, thus providing immense security to the occupants. In case of frontal collisions, the airbags provide total safety to the driver as the ideal supplementary restraint system. This car also has front fog lamps that ensure added visibility in low lit areas. Apart from these, Hyundai has also used an immobiliser that does not allow the car to start without the correct key.
Keeping sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives in mind, Hyundai Motor India Limited has equipped the car with the unique ‘Alternator Management System’ (AMS). This system was developed by the automotive giant, especially for the customers of India, where air pollution is an issue.
The AMS also regulates the power supply, lessens the engine workload and lowers fuel consumption & emissions whenever the driver stops the car.
Furthermore, its manual shift indicator alerts the driver to shift gears whenever the need arises. Hence, the car delivers optimum fuel economy and extended battery life using the two ace technologies. Hyundai EON has also been awarded the Environmental Certificate in compliance with ISO 14040 standards, as per the results of the life cycle assessment test from TUV NORD, Germany.
Hyundai EON is already on sale in India and is available in 6 attractive colours. Its standard D-Lite variant costs Rs. 2, 69,999, while D-Lite with AC can be acquired at Rs. 2, 91,869. On the other hand, Era, Magna, Magna
