The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki said on Thursday that it will shut down its Gurgaon manufacturing plant for two days, i.e. Friday and Saturday. The decision was taken after the supply of essential components from SPIL (Suzuki Power train India Limited) got affected badly as workers there are on a strike in support of the worker’s strike at Manesar plant.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the company said, "Maruti Suzuki has decided to suspend production at the Gurgaon plant on October 14 and October 15. This is in view of the non-availability of components for cars."

The production level at Gurgaon plant has decreased further to just 600 units on Thursday as compared to production of 2,800 units in normal conditions. Just a day back, the firm had halted the manufacturing operations of popular cars like Alto, Swift, Swift Dzire and SX4, and the plant was only rolling out cars like Omni and Eeco, which are dependent on SPIL components. Now that operating for only these models is not viable, the company has decided to shut down the Gurgaon plant for two days.

Meanwhile, the strike at Manesar plant entered into its 7th day on Thursday, with neither management nor the workers ready to step back.

Meanwhile, the local High Court has refused to declare the worker’s strike illegal. The Court, however, has directed the workers to leave the company premises. The order followed a petition filled by Maruti Suzuki India Limited in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Manesar based plant of Maruti has been seized by the striking workers, since last few weeks.
