Honda, the Japanese auto maker, has developed a reputation for being pro-technology and innovation over the years. Such has been Honda’s effort to bring in technologies that one expects them to launch new products every year. Also, Honda’s prowess is not just confined to passenger vehicles, it extends far beyond. The firm has a division called Honda Robotics that aims at conceptualizing and developing devices for enhancing human comfort. One such concept that Honda has designed is the Uni-CUB personal mobility device. This device is yet to see the light of a price tag or a Honda dealership but the firm is working on changing that pretty soon.

Unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, Honda Uni-CUB is sort of a compact electric scooter that can be used for moving within indoor spaces, such as offices, showrooms and homes. Though it is reminiscent of the Segway PT, this device features the balance control technology along with the driving wheel system, which is owned by Honda. Experts have lauded the effort by the Honda Robotics division to make product like this, which increases human mobility.

According to Honda, the Uni-CUB mobility device “allows the rider to move forward, backward, side-to-side and diagonally as freely as walking, simply by shifting body weight and leaning toward the intended direction.” As of now, no launch date has been mentioned by Honda for the Uni-CUB but given the firm’s penchant for innovation, it will not be long before we see someone in Japanese offices riding this device.
