Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), the Indian subsidiary of Japanese car maker has decided to intensify the operations at its manufacturing plant at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, subsequently aiming to increase the capacity by 20 per cent. If everything goes as per the plans of the company, the unit’s current production capacity will be ascended to 1,20,000 cars per annum in the current financial year.

Honda Siel Cars India Senior Vice President and Director, Raman Kumar Sharma confirmed that the new strategy would not require much of technology and efforts. “This additional in capacity would only involve minor investment,” he was quoted as saying.

As a matter of fact, the Greater Noida unit was built, back in 1997, with a total investment to the tune of Rs. 450 crore. Since then, Honda Siel India Limited has come a long way and has invested an exorbitant amount of Rs. 1,620 crore. The giant Japanese car maker's second manufacturing facility is located at Rajasthan’s Tapukara that covers an area of over 600 acres. The plant will have the capability to produce around 60,000 units per annum, during the initial stages, with an investment to the tune of Rs. 1,000 crore.

It is important to note that the first phase of the plant was launched in September 2008. The company is also working on launching the diesel variants of its cars, which would subsequently boost the image as well as the sales of the company, as its operations would bring a wide range of product in the market.

“We are working on the diesel variant. It would be difficult to put a definite date to its launch now,” Sharma said.

Raman Kumar Sharma was present at the launch of Honda Siel Cars India’s small car Brio, in the Uttar Pradesh market, which accounts for around 10 per cent of its sales. The B+ segment offering, Brio has been offered in six colours and four variants priced between Rs. 3.99 lacs to Rs. 5.14 lacs.

“Since its launch, we have received 5,000 bookings for Brio pan-India and the deliveries would start soon,” Sharma informed.
