      Honda City emerges winner in C segment with 9,518 units sold in March 2014

      Honda City has clearly emerged a winner in mid-sized sedan segment by registering sales of 9,518 units in March 2014. Overpowering its rivals-VolkswagenVento,SkodaRapid and Hyundai Verna in the mid-sized sedan segment,faceliftedCity has regained its lost glory. Sagging sales are history now, City’s new edition fitted with a diesel heart has been roping in preeminent response from customers. Deliveries of petrol version commenced towards the end of February, contributing towards the monthly sales ofHCIL. Sighting necessity to rev up production, the company invested Rs 3,526croreat itsTapukaraplant located inRajasthan. By 2016-2017 the company eyes increasing production capacity to 3lakhon yearly basis.

      City’s lack in diesel trim toppled sedan from its long reigning top spot in C segment. Hyundai Verna’s tweaked version boastingfluidicdesign put City in tight spot. It was then that the Japanese car maker felt need to develop diesel motor. Popularity of City’s diesel trim can be inferred from itspre-bookings, the car maker received an influx of bookings prior to its launch in January 2014.

      City is available for sale in India in five trims each in petrol and diesel guise. Honda has packed base trim E with prominent safety and comfort features including Anti-Lock-braking-System withEBD, front and rear power windows which are rarely offered by car makers across segments in basic trims. Besides these features, the entry level model also boasts of electric wing mirrors, power steering with tilt function and body coloured front grille. Honda City petrol top-of-the-line variant,VXcomes with exquisite features including electric sunroof, leather upholstery, engine start-stop button with smart key entry,keylesstrunk opening and leather wrapped steering wheel. PetrolVXmodel is also available inCVTgearbox.

      Thriving sales of new City and its sibling Amaze has enabledHCILto achieve highest ever monthly sales in March 2014. Honda Amaze compact sedan which was launched in India last year accounted for 7,374 units out of the total 18,427 units sold by the company in March 2014.
