      Hero HX250R to take on Honda CBR250R, KTM RC200

      Hero MotoCorp is preparing a series of new motorcycles and scooters for the growing Indian two-wheeler market. With the growing demand for affordable sports bikes in India, the home-grown two-wheeler maker is ready to launch a 250cc bike - the HX250R - that made its debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Upon its launch, the bike will rival against the likes of Honda CBR250R, KTM RC200, Kawasaki Z250 and others in the segment.

      The HX250R motorcycle is being manufactured by Hero Motocorp with the help of EBR (Erik Buell Racing). It is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve engine that features liquid-cooling and fuel-injection. This engine is capable of producing a top power output of 31bhp at 9000rpm and a peak torque of 26Nm. Power is transferred on roads via a six-speed transmission. The exhaust pipe is placed under the seat. The bike is likely to hit a top speed of over 160kmph, while it will hit the 100kmph mark from zero in less than 8 seconds.

      The suspension mechanism comprises of telescopic forks at the front and a 5-step adjustable monoshock with shim valve damping at the rear. The front features three-piston calliper with 300mm disc, while the rear gets 200mm disc brakes. The braking system of the bike also gets Hero's combined braking system with optional ABS.

      Dimensionally, the Hero HX250R is 2085mm long, 735mm wide and 1145mm tall. The bike comes with a ground clearance of 145mm and has a wheelbase of 1370mm. It rides on new 17-inch alloy wheels. The bike sports LED lights at both front and rear.

      The Hero HX250R is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 1.6 lakh to Rs. 1.9 lakh, ex-showroom.
