Expressing his views on the launch ceremony, the President and Managing Director of GM India, Lowell Paddock, said, “The all-new Spark will build on the success of its predecessors and stand out against the competition in India’s rapidly growing small car market. The introduction of the all-new Spark reinforces GM’s commitment to continually roll out new and upgraded products that exceed the expectations of car buyers nationwide.”

With the launch of a new version of Spark in the Indian market, it seems that GM has directly targeted the likes of new Maruti Suzuki Alto, which has been introduced off late. Interestingly, Spark was launched in 2007 and since then, the auto maker has been offering it in several variants and colour options. The new 2012 Chevrolet Spark is expected to set new benchmarks in the Indian small car market through its latest design, affordability and engineering marvel. Reportedly, the model boast of more space at interiors than its close competitor new Maruti Alto, which can also seat four individuals.

The new model from Chevrolet has a bold outlook, which is supported by its twin-port grille and signature Chevrolet design cue, which provides it a fine look of hatchback from the front fascia. However, Alto 800 features a contemporary Maruti design which has been a blend of its several flagship models. On the other hand, the designing language used in new Spark has a refreshed look with new graphic patterns, sporty fog lamps and dual tone front as well as rear bumpers. The 2012 Spark has been offered in six vibrant colour options, namely Velvet Red, Caviar Black, Linen Beige, Sandrift Grey, Summit White and Misty Lake.

Besides, the model sports charismatic interiors which warmly welcome its occupants. The front cabin of this car is provided with a redesigned cockpit, which has a number of features for the comforts of driver and front passenger. New generation spark also has premium upholstery, which seems to be inspired from the Indian culture. Comparing it with recently introduced Alto 800, industry experts believe that both the models have similar number of interiors advancements and features similar taste of comforts; however Spark can be placed above on the ladder.

Coming to the power mill, the all new Spark has been assimilated with a performance oriented four-cylinder 1.0-litre S-Tec engine. The maximum power generated by the engine of this model stands at 62 bhp at 5400 rpm with a peak torque of 90.3 Nm at 4,200 rpm. It must be noted that power and torque outputs of new spark is maximised at lower speeds, which makes it an ideal vehicle for travelling in both cities and highways.

Priced between Rs. 3.26 lacs and Rs. 4.11 lacs (all-prices are ex-showroom), auto analysts believe that the new avatar of Spark is a good deal from the end of American auto maker.
