      General Motors India wins National Safety Award 2012 for the 3rd consecutive year

      The Indian subsidiary of US based leading car maker General Motors has received the National Safety Award for the year 2011 for its Halol plant. The award was given in recognition to the variety of safety initiatives taken by General Motors India at their Halol plant. This is the third consecutive year when General Motors India has received this award for the high safety standards at its plants.

      Commenting on the company’s achievement, P.Balendran, GM India Vice President, said, "The award is being conferred on us for the third time in a row is a testimony for administering best industrial and safety practices at our manufacturing units and will also motivate us to further improve the benchmarks set by us on safety aspects.”

      He added that the company has maintained a continued focus on encouraging accident prevention and implementing safety procedures across all its processes and management and remain committed in providing the best working environment to its employees and promote a culture of sustainable and equitable development, while promoting optimum utilization of natural as well as human resources.

      The National Safety Award was founded way back in year 1965 by the government of India in order to recognize the moves taken by industrial establishments including safety initiatives, safety promotion programs and accident prevention. The prestigious award is given by Directorate General of the Factory Advice Service & Labour Institute (DGFASLI). DGFASLI is a leading institute for safety which comes under the aegis of Ministry of Labour & Employment.

      While topping the chart for ‘Low Incident Rate’, the Halol plant of the company stood at second position in the category of 'Highest Safe Man - hours'. The new award has added one more feather in the crown of GM India which has already won a number of prestigious awards including, Energy Conservation awards from the Government of India, Quality Circle awards from Gujarat government, National Safety Awards instituted by the Government of India and Three Leaves award from Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).
