Automakers have started reporting their sales figures for the last month and nearly every manufacturer has posted strong sales growth reflecting the strong bullish sentiment in the auto market. Ford Motors reported four times sales growth in the July 2010 as compared to same month last year. It sold 8739 units in comparison to 2146 units sold in July 2009. The company attributed the growth to its small car model Ford Figo which continues to post robust sales. Ford has doubled its shift at Chennai plant to meet the rise in demand.

General Motors may not be working wonders back home but it is definitely showing good numbers in the Indian market. It has also ramped up its production capacities at its two facilities in India to meet the rise in demand owing to the new successful models – Chevrolet Beat and sedan model Cruze. "To meet the rising demand, a second shift has been introduced in Halol and Talegaon plants. The production capacity has been enhanced from 6,000 to 12,000 units per month," General Motors India, Vice-President, P Balendran. "We are confident to clear the backlog for Beat and Cruze by August," he added.

Tata Motors also reported 41 percent increase in its sales figures where it sold 67,799 units in July, 2010, compared to 48,054 units in the same month of the previous year. The major sales contribution came from 9000 units of Nano sold during July 2010 while Indica showed only marginal one percent increase over the same period as compared to last year.
