The Indian subsidiary of American automobile giant Ford will be inaugurating a fresh production facility in the Sanand region of Gujarat by the end of March. Ford India already has a production plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and the new one will help in doubling the firm’s manufacturing capacity.
According to sources, this new production facility will be inaugurated on March 26th, 2015, and the Chief Minister of Gujarat is likely to do the honours. It is believed that the models to be manufactured in this plant would include new Figo hatchback and the upcoming Aspire compact sedan. Following the inauguration of the plant, these models will be launched in the coming months.
Gujarat is one of the production hubs for automobiles in India and the new Ford plant will be close to Tata Motors’ facility, where Nano hatchback is being manufactured. The new plant in Sanand boasts of an installed capacity of 2.4 lakh cars along with 2.7 lakh engines. Export is one of the main motives of Ford India and the firm’s “One Ford” global policy will be adhered to through this plant.
