Just few days back, Fiat Egea was spotted at a dealership in Turkey and now there is an official update which states that Fiat has begun producing the Egea sedan at the company’s Tofas plant located at Bursa, Turkey. Previously showcased at the Istanbul Motor Show, the premium sedan attracted great attention from onlookers. The Indian equivalent rivals of Fiat Egea are Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Rapid.

With the production of Fiat Egea, the brands wants to strengthen its commitment of industrial development in Turkey by producing greater employment opportunities and the Egea also happens to be the first model to be made at this premier Fiat Chrysler facility. The Egea manufactured here will cater to the domestic as well as export demands.

Designed for the local market with intensive research, the Egea targets a wide range of customers looking for a premium sedan. Fiat is upfront about the fact that this new model was primary designed with Turkish consumers in focus. The Egea is also expected to be exported to 40 countries based on the same platform. Fiat also plans to churn our different body types of this model based on the market demand.

Made from ground up, the Egea took three years of development and was designed as a three box sedan based on a compact hatch. It has a width of 1780mm, height of 1480mm and a wheelbase of 2640mm. Designed for five occupants; it also makes great practical sense with a generous boot space of 510 liters.

As reported earlier, Fiat has not dropped any hints of the Egea coming to the Indian market any time soon but we expect India to feature in the export plans. The Fiat Egea will be powered by a 1.6-litre motor that makes 118 bhp of power. The base variants will make use of a 94bhp 1.3-litre diesel engine. The gasoline variants will be powered by a 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre E.torQ engine.
