Fiat, the Italian carmaker is gearing up for the launch of highly rated Abarth 500 Competizione in the Indian car market this month. Set to rival the new MINI range, the Abarth 500 is expected to be launched in the third week of December, 2014.
The India-bound model will be powered by a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that is capable of producing a top power output of 158bhp and a peak torque of 230Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car via a five-speed manual transmission gearbox. The vehicle accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 8 seconds and hits a top speed of 210kmph. It will be the fastest hatchbacks in the country.
The Abarth 500 Competizione hatchback will be offered in limited numbers, and will official mark the entry of Fiat’s high performance brand- the Abarth in India. It will come as completely built unit (CBU) and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 25 - Rs. 30 lakh. The Abarth 500 would accommodate 2 adults, while rear could only accommodate two small kids.
Interestingly, the company is also planning to launch more products under Abarth brand. If media reports are to be believed, Fiat India will launch the Abarth Punto and Abarth Avventura in the country in the third quarter of 2015. Both models are likely to be priced around Rs. 9 lakh. Both models will get the 1.4-litre T-Jet MultiAir 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 133bhp of power and 206Nm of torque.
