Ferrari Dino set to be launched again

Sergio Marchionne, Chairman of Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari, has confirmed that the Dino model will make a comeback in the market. Marchionne said that this car will be launched in the form of a mid-engine sports car that will be fitted with a twin-turbocharged V6 powertrain.

The Italian confirmed this in an interview to Autocar UK and said that the company has been contemplating the re-launch of the popular car for a long time and it is just a matter of time before it makes way. The Dino moniker was utilised by Ferrari during the 1960s and 1970s when it made V6 and V8-fitted cars when it wanted to increase volumes by introducing a new sub-brand.

Irrespective of the history, the firm will not be taking the old route of high volumes or launch it at a low price. “We may produce a 500 horsepower Ferrari, but it will not be a cheap Ferrari. The brand is unique and needs to be protected. I would rather build 500 fewer cars than the market demanded instead of 500 more. We must not mess with customer expectations of Ferrari as an exclusive brand.”

The Ferrari Dino, when launched, will be priced the same as California T. This car is expected to deliver a sports car similar performance and will be competing with several other models, such as McLaren 570S, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black series.
