The American car-maker has tweaked the Brazil-developed Ecosport with over 300 parts to make its compact SUV Ecosport to comply with European norms. To begin with, the European version of Ford Ecosport shall feature a Left hand drive pattern. Internal trim and plastic panels needed upgrades, the body in white (Skeleton of the compact SUV) has been altered to enable the car in meeting European crash-test standards. Air-bags have been added as a standard feature. The American car-maker Ford foresees the European market as good market for the launch of Ecosport as the continent has been favorable in terms of sales for SUV rather than the regular vehicle class segment.

Apart from change in parts, Ford has also been worried about delivering the cars on time as the sales for the SUV is constrained due to shortage of supply. Alexander Sackczewski, product marketing boss at Ford of Germany, said, “We could sell a lot more, but unfortunately we won't get enough units from India.” In the second half, the American car-maker anticipates on selling just about 4,000 Ecosport models in the German market. With a stronger bodywork this time around the Ford Ecosport is expected to score a full ten on the safety chart. As per sources, the European version may not get a four wheel drive system as seen in one of the variant in the country.
