      Emerging Markets Help Volkswagen Steer Through Financial Crisis

      The German car maker Volkswagen reported its third quarter profits which rose to 28 percent with its auto sales rising in emerging markets like China, India, Russia, etc. “Volkswagen has performed well so far in a difficult environment,” the chief executive, Martin Winterkorn, said in a statement. Volkswagen Chief Financial Officer, stated on a conference call the new models in these emerging markets will help the company to sail through the tough times. They will also protect the company from the tough global sales scenario in the coming year 2009.

      Volkswagen currently marks its presence in India with its popular mid-size sedan VW Jetta. Its other group companies like Skoda have Fabia as a popular model in the small car segment. Audi has recently launched its super-luxury sports model, Audi R8, in India and is already sold out. The company looks at the tough and competitive market in the year 2009 but still remains hopeful about markets in Russia, India, Brazil, etc.

      The company stated that its share of the global passenger car market increased by 10.0 percent in the last year. “Volkswagen has performed well so far in a difficult environment,” said VW chief Martin Winterkorn.
