Eicher-Polaris Pvt. Ltd. has introduced its first product – the Multix – at a starting price of Rs. 2.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Jaipur). Claimed to be India’s first ‘personal utility vehicle’, the Multix will be available in two trims and four color options. The vehicle will be manufactured at the company’s Jaipur plant.
Powering the Multix is a 600cc diesel engine, which is capable to return a fuel economy of 28.45kmpl. It’s the first vehicle to feature a portable generator in the Indian market. This generator has power capacity of 3kW that can be used for domestic lighting and powering purposes such as switching on lights, fans, electric water motor and drilling machines.
Based on a tubular frame platform, the Multix has robust ‘Flexituff’ body-built with a luggage capacity of 1, 918-litre. It also gets Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS) with a Pro ride independent suspension system. The vehicle has a ground clearance of 225mm that makes it compatible for rough Indian terrains.
The company says that the Multix has gone through 18,00,000km equivalent of testing for “off-road reliability, safety & durability". Initially, the joint venture will sell the Multix through 30 independent dealerships that will be opened by the next month. Though, deliveries will be commenced from August, 2015. The company has invested Rs. 350 crores for setting up its Jaipur-based production plant that has annual capacity of 60, 000units. Interestingly, the plant capacity can be increased up to 120, 000 units/ annum.
