Diwali Brings Cheers to the Indian Auto Market

Dhanteras, the auspicious day for buying cars, gold, jewelry and white, goods has left everyone smiling in the market. This Diwali it was only “money-magic” in the Indian auto market that was speaking volumes about the successful economic recovery. All those who had made advance bookings were too happy to take home their favorite cars and make the final deal. The last minute shoppers were seen hopping from one showroom to another to compare and evaluate the available options.

Dhanteras is especially considered as an auspicious day to evoke the goddess of wealth Lakshmi. Most of the Indian customers plan their major purchases for this day. An estimated 25,000 cars were delivered on Thursday which is the single highest sales in a day in India.

"We are expecting sales to reach the highest ever for Maruti's 26-year run in India," Maruti's executive office (marketing & sales) Mayank Pareek said. The company aims to sell over 7,000 cars on Dhanteras this year against around 4,000 last year. Honda Vice-president described the season as “one of the best” as Honda clocked 1200 units sale in a single day. Toyota also delivered 540 units which is 130 percent growth as compared to the same day last year.

Two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto also reported its highest single-day sales of 30,000 units on that day. The robust sales this year mark a contrast from the previous Diwali, when the global recession and its local fallout had hit consumer sentiment.
