Fiat has planned string of launches in 2014 for the domestic market and one of the cars to be introduced this year includes Avventura. Unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo in February this year Avventura is crossover based on Punto hatchback. Fiat is expected to launch Avventura in India by the end of this year. In India, Avventura will compete with the likes of other crossovers including Volkswagen Cross Polo and Etios Cross.
Punto based crossover will come with many additions and tweaks to vary it from the hatchback. Modifications have been made in the front fascia, among the most noticeable changes made in the front is the revamped grille that has been designed in tandem with the honeycomb pattern.
The car retains the vertical tail lamp assembly and looks like a revised cluster of the Punto’s. The rear tailgate has a spare wheel mounted on it while the lower part of the bumper integrates reverse lights and fog lamps like the Punto. Roof rails are also visible on the Avventura. It was being speculated that the crossover could come with a bash plate and a smoked projector head lights. Sources close to the development reveal that Fiat might not offer LED fog lamps and daytime running lights as standard option instead it could be proffered as optional and regular bulbs could be equipped as standard. This would allow the car maker to cut down on the price.
Engine options might be passed on to Avventuar from Punto hatchback including three motor in total. Petrol variant could come with an option of two engines- 1.2 litre and 1.4 litre engines while diesel line-up could be powered with Fiat’s robust 1.3litre Multijet engine that does duty in various popular hatchbacks in India. The low displacement 1.2 litre engine is likely to be featured in the entry level trims, the engine is capable of producing a top power and torque output of 67 Bhp and 97 Nm respectively. The high displacement 1.4 litre powertrain is likely to be housed in higher trims, the engine is capable of engendering a pinnacle power and torque output of 75 Bhp and 197 Nm respectively. Rumours suggest that the 1.4 litre petrol engine could be refined to offer enhanced power of 90 Bhp.
