Car exports from India have soared and marked a healthy growth. This is one of the comforting factors to the car manufacturers in India who have been experiencing a tough time in the domestic market. Although the festival season in India has raised hopes for auto manufacturers, it has mostly been the car exports that have showcased encouraging figures in their balance sheets.

Car exports from India soared by 55.93 percent against a small 5.39 percent increase in the domestic sales during the last six months of the current year. Hyundai Motor India Limited has emerged as the leading car exporter from India with its exports figures depicting a 78.61 percent hike. It exported 120,649 units in last six months against 67,626 units in the same period last year. Hyundai Motor India Limited currently exports its various models like Getz Prime, Santro, i10 and Accent to more than 95 countries worldwide. It also showcased its upcoming model, Hyundai i20, at the Paris Motors Show last month, which may also be produced from India.
The overall exports figures stood at 154,787 units during the period April-September 2008 as against 99,266 units in the same period last year. Maruti exported 29,698 cars as compared to 23,750 units last year, and Mahindra shipped its first batch of 243 units of the new Logan to South Africa this year while Fiat India exported 186 units as its first step towards car exports from India. Clearly then, exports are playing a vital role in keeping the auto industry going!
