Following the official confirmation of Ciaz’s launch in mid-October, bookings have started effective today across the country for the upcoming sedan. Prospective customers can get their Ciaz booked at an authorized Maruti Suzuki dealership for a token amount of Rs 21,000. The Honda City rivaling sedan will be launched in petrol and diesel guise in total of four trim levels including V,V+, Z and Z+. Powering petrol variants is a 1.4 litre K Series engine that develops top power output of 91 Bhp.

Diesel range gets Fiat sourced 1.3 litre Multijet engine engendering peak power of 89 Bhp. One of the reasons Ciaz is grabbing attention these days is its claimed fuel economy, specially for the diesel variant. According to ARAI tests Ciaz’s petrol variant will return fuel economy of 20. 73 kmpl and the diesel variant will deliver segment best fuel efficiency of 26.21 kmpl. This is a tad more than the new Honda City diesel that runs up to 26 km on a litre, hence it makes Ciaz the most fuel efficient option in its league in India.

Usually such fuel efficiency numbers are delivered by hatchbacks while sedans are confined to offering relatively lesser mileage. However if we look at the compact sedans and mid-sized sedans running on roads today, they vouch to proffer impressive fuel economy that go at par with most fuel efficient hatchbacks available for sale in domestic market. Here, we are talking specially about the diesel powered vehicles that are capable of running up to longer distances.

Honda City as we mentioned above returns 26 kmpl, while from CS segment Honda Amaze delivers 25.8 kmpl and lastly from the same segment, Hyundai Xcent promises to run around 24.4 kmpl. Similar mileage numbers are delivered by petite offering in market from car makers like Chevrolet and Hyundai. Chevrolet’s Beat diesel could be driven for 25.44 kms on one litre while Hyundai Grand i10 manages to achieve 24 kms run on one litre.

Considering these mileage numbers offered by some of the most popular vehicles in India Ciaz clearly has a robust chance to outpace its rivals not only in terms of fuel economy but in terms of sales also. However a lot depends on the pricing and other factors of the vehicle, suspense on which will be pricked at the time of launch.
