Motorcycles are the recent trend setters in the world of Bollywood. The action factor has been set a notch higher in the movies by bikes as filmmakers in the industry use these to shoot daring stunt scenes. With every new movie being released, there are new chapters being added to the biker's diary as all filmmakers seem eager to exploit the motorcycling trend.

Kamal Hassan was the first actor in Indian cinema to enter the silver screen on a Yezdi. This brought about a revolutionary change among the masses as it gave birth to the craze for bikes in the country. The Dhoom franchise put it even further as it showcased the true-blue bike stunts and the upcoming Dhoom 3 will see Aamir Khan performing some serious stunts on a superbike. The passion for biking transcends age as even Amitabh Bachchan showed youth-like zest while riding a Harley Davidson in the movie Budhdha Hoga Tera Baap.

The latest trend around the B-Town is that there cannot be a romantic plot without a motorcycle. The recent hit by Imtiaz Ali, Rockstar, starring Nargis Fakhri and Ranbir Kapoor had Suzuki bikes playing an important role, while in Ishaqzade, Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra elope on a Yezdi. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan romanced Anushka Sharma on a bike in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, while Ajay Devgan is gearing up to exhibit his biking skills in Bol Bachchan. The point to be noted is that both King Khan and Devgan made their entry on the silver screen riding a bike in Deewana and Phool Aur Kante, respectively. Devgan also made a style statement of his own when he rode a cruiser bike with three pillion riders in the hit film Golmal.

Gone are the days when only macho heroes used to ride the bike and the actresses adorned the pillion. In present times, the leading ladies are giving the heroes a run for their money with their biking skills. In the Bollywood film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Katrina Kaif was seen riding a cruiser bike, while Sameera Reddy performed breathtaking bike stunts in Tezz.

Not just in reel life, Bollywood stars are enthusiastic about bikes in real life too. John Abraham's love for bikes is known across the country, as he is best known for his collection of Yamaha R1 (1000 cc), V-Max (1700 cc) and Light Foot, a customised bike from Rajputana Customs. Vivek Oberoi is no stranger to bikes either as he is the proud owner of a flashy black-and-yellow Ducati 1098, which he once rode to Hritik Roshan's birthday bash. He has appeared on MTV Stunt Mania previously and has performed his own stunts in the movie Prince. Shahid Kapoor is another motorcycle aficionado who owns a Yamaha MT-01 and a Harley Davidson Fat Boy.

Hollywood has been smitten with bikes for long too, with innumerable films centred on bikes and the experience of riding a bike itself. In recent times, The Motorcycle Diaries, Wild Hogs, Hell Ride, Ghost Rider series, The World's Fastest Indian and Torque are some of the movies that focus on bikes. Even the small screen has been set ablaze with bikes as the plot of the TV series Sons of Anarchy has been created around an outlaw motorcycle club. With so much emphasis on bikes, it certainly seems that they can prove to be a sure-shot way to pull audiences and take them on a thrilling ride.
