BMW, the world's largest luxury carmaker, witnessed a surge in its sales in China and Japan in the nine month period till the end of September 2012. While the sales in China increased by 33 per cent, it soared by 21.5 per cent in Japan. This huge increase in sales of vehicles resulted in the company's pre-tax profit rise by 17.6 per cent to 2 billion euros ($2.5bn) for the period July-September 2012. BMW's sales in Europe rose by 2.6 per cent.

BMW Chief executive Norbert Reithofer said, "We expect further sales volume growth for the fourth quarter, even though it is clear that we—and indeed the sector as a whole—are likely to be confronted with adverse business conditions."

The company's overall sales, which include Rolls Royce and Mini brands increased by 9 per cent to 434,963 units for the three months period between July and September. The company said that it was confident of achieving its yearly targets and expects better pre sales profits and the overall sales.

Reithofer added, “Like the rest of the sector, we are now beginning to feel some headwind." Reithofer made it clear that the company’s forecasts were based on the assumption that the global economic conditions would not deteriorate sharply.

BMW, the number one luxury car maker of the India, like in other European nation looks forward to expanding its vehicle portfolio in the country, too. The German auto maker is all set to launch BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe in India on November 8, 2012. This would not only increase its vehicle portfolio in the country but also take the luxury cars to a new level in India. As the buzz for Gran Coupe has already started in the country, it is likely that the car may become the best seller luxury car. The company has lots of expectations from 6 Series Gran Coupe and this new car may increase BMW's sales in the country. However, it is too early to come to any conclusion if BMW India, would witness a growth like it recorded in Japan and China.
