The United States arm of BMW, the globally renowned German premium sports and luxury vehicle maker, has announced to recall its S 1000 RR sports bike to its factory floors, owing to their defective side stands. As per reports, the stylish motorcycles to be called back are from 2012 and 2013 model years, in which the company found a manufacturing flaw in their side stands. Interestingly, the BMW S 1000 RR is the same sports bike that was recalled last year for issues in its engine design, which could have resulted in failures from thrown rods.

It was found that the side stands installed on BMW S 1000 RR sports bike could eventually become loose earlier than the timeline expected. The fault is potentially dangerous as it can lead to falling over of the sports bike, thereby posing threat for security of both rider and bystanders.

As per a report documented with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, BMW has confirmed that side stand bolts on S 1000 RR sports bike might get loose due to a certain manufacturing imperfection. It was learnt that the side stands could get slack over a period of time and might even get separated from the sports bike's frame. Reportedly, some 2,385 units of BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle assembled between September 2011 and December 2012, are affected by the production level flaw in side stands.

The recall process will be taken care of by BMW retail outlets, who will clear out the side stand mounting plate threads before replacing them with new plate bolts. The entire process will be borne by the company and customers won't have to pay anything. The German sports bike maker is anticipated to kick start the bike recall process in January 2013.
