The Germany based leading luxury car maker BMW launched its 6-Series convertible in the Indian market on Friday. The car has been priced at 95 lakh (ex-showroom). While speaking to the reporters at the occasion, BMW India President Andreas Schaaf said, "It is an ultra-luxury car which will be available in India as a completely built unit."

Moreover, the company has said that it is aiming to sell more than 60,000 units of its cars in the country over the period of next 10 years. BMW India will invest an additional sum of Rs 70 crore by 2012."In the next ten years, India's luxury car market is expected to grow ten times to up to 1.5 lakh units. We will certainly enjoy 35 to 40 per cent of the market by then," Mr. Schaaf said.

In year 2010, the company sold a total of 6,246 units as against the total industry sales of luxury cars at about 15,000 units, making BMW the largest player in the luxury car segment in the country.

BMW India will also roll-out its sports utility vehicle X3 within this year in the country. The SUV will be brought to the Indian market through CKD (completely knocked down) unit route. The car will be assembled at the company’s Chennai facility.
