Choosing one amongst Honda Amaze and the Chevrolet Sail sedan is truly akin to selecting one amongst equals. Both vehicles are yet-to-be launched in the entry-level sedan category, which is a first for both the auto makers. Additionally, Amaze is Honda's first vehicle to be powered by a diesel engine in India.

Interestingly, both vehicles would be available with a choice between petrol and diesel engines. The Amaze is to be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol i-VTec motor, which is the same packed in Brio, producing 87 bhp of power. In diesel version, the model would be powered by a 1.5 litre i-DTec engine, which will be capable of churning out 74 bhp of power. Industry experts believe that Amaze is expected to be priced between Rs. 6-7.5 lakhs.

On the other hand, the Sail sedan would also be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine, capable of producing 85 bhp of power. A 1.3 litre turbo diesel engine would also be used, generating 77 bhp of power. Auto analysts believe that the Chevrolet Sail sedan would be priced in a range similar to the Honda Amaze.

As per industry experts, the addition of a boot on the Sail sedan makes it look more comprehensive than the Sail hatchback in sub-4 metre length. Whereas, the boot in Amaze does not look like an extra attached piece as is visible in Maruti Swift DZire, but appears well integrated.

Interiors of the Sail sedan look fabulous, thanks to its Corvette-inspired dual cockpit design, which was also seen in Chevrolet Cruze. Legroom in both, Sail sedan and the Amaze, appear to be generous with not much to choose between the two. However, rear seats in Amaze could just be a little more comfortable than that packed within the Sail sedan. Chevrolet provides a 3-5-3 advantage on warranty, which stands for 3 years/45,000 km Chevrolet Promise, 5 year/1,50,000 km for engine and transmission, and 3 years/1,00,000 km as a standard for all vehicles. Total warranty coverage for Honda vehicles is 4 years/80,000 km, whichever comes first.

Though there is not much to choose between Amaze and Sail in terms of performance, industry experts feel that the main area where Chevrolet could lose out is in the after sales and service department. It must be noted that Honda has already proved its prowess in India with the highly successful model City.
